- Other Details: A locum psychiatrist is needed on a PRN (as-needed) basis to provide inpatient coverage with varied shifts each month. The schedule consists of 8-hour patient contact days from 8 AM to 5 PM, with coverage required Monday through Friday or potentially seven days a week, and on-call responsibilities every third day from 8 AM to 5 PM. The role includes rounding on a 28-bed adult unit and an 8-bed adolescent unit (ages 8–17), supervising two APPs including reviewing and co-signing orders and documentation, and seeing consults on medical units during on-call shifts. The practice includes services such as inpatient hospitalization, medication management, individual and group therapy, recreational therapy, and discharge planning. The average daily hospital census is 26 patients, with a total of three physicians and ten APPs supporting the department. Supervision of APPs is required, and teaching opportunities are available for family medicine residents, nursing students, and OT students. The EMR used is Cerner, and telehealth is not an option for this position. Candidates must be board certified (or board eligible) in psychiatry, fellowship-trained, and hold an active IA license or qualify through the IMLC.

Job Responsibilities
* Round on a 28-bed adult unit and an 8-bed adolescent unit (ages 8–17).
* Supervise two Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including reviewing and co-signing orders and documentation.
* Participate in daytime call every third day from 8 AM to 5 PM.
* Perform psychiatric consults on medical units during on-call days.
* Engage in teaching opportunities with family medicine residents, nursing students, and OT students.
* Participate in interdisciplinary care including medication management, individual and group therapy, and discharge planning.
Qualifications
* Fellowship trained in Psychiatry.
* Active Iowa medical license or eligibility through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC).
* Previous experience in inpatient psychiatry preferred.
Working Hours
* Patient contact hours: 8 AM to 5 PM.
* Shifts may occur Monday through Friday or up to seven days a week.
* On-call requirement: every third day, 8 AM to 5 PM.
Skills
* Effective supervision and leadership abilities in working with APPs.
* Proficiency in using Cerner EMR.
