Primary Purpose

Responsible for providing direct and/or indirect health care services to assigned patient population.

Minimum Specifications

Education

  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an approved college of Medicine/Osteopathy.

Experience

  • Must be PY-3 or higher in good standing with University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center’s Psychiatry Residency Training Program or affiliated Psychiatry Fellowship Program.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Must have a valid unrestricted Texas Medical License.
  • Must have current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
  • Must have and maintain for the duration of employment a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Must have passed and obtained Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA) certification.
  • Must meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by the Graduate Medical Education Requirements for Additional Medically Related Work.

Responsibilities

  • As assigned, provides high quality management of patient care. Performs psychiatry on the Parkland Psychiatric Emergency Service, evaluating and treating patients in the Parkland Main Emergency Department as a consultant, as well as patients in the Parkland Emergency Department if needed.

  • Discusses each case with the assigned faculty psychiatrist for each shift, able to provide clear and thorough information needed for the purpose of staffing and supervision, after which the final decision in disposition will be made.
  • Documents each psychiatric evaluation in clear, thorough, consistent, and prompt manner during each shift, and designates each note to be attested by the supervising faculty psychiatrist.
  • Promptly relays important information to the consulting physician, such as need for emergent medical or psychiatric intervention.
  • Records health history, findings, treatment and recommendations accurately, clearly and in a thorough, consistent, and prompt manner during each shift, and designates each note to be attested by the supervising faculty physician.
  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
