Locums Psychiatrist Physician for Veterans Affairs Loma Linda Healthcare System

Position Title: Psychiatrist Physician
Location: Veterans Affairs Loma Linda Healthcare System (VALLHS)
Work Schedule: Full-time, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM M-F
Length of Contract: 52 weeks

Job Description:

We are is a seeking dedicated and compassionate Contract Psychiatrist Physicians to work on a locums basis at the Veterans Affairs Loma Linda Healthcare System. In this role, you will provide direct and indirect services to eligible veterans, including clinical assessments, treatment, and determining priorities requiring independent judgment. The successful candidate will improve organizational and communication skills and utilize an interdisciplinary approach in service provision. The workstation for this position will be located at the VALLHS main hospital campus or, when necessary, a Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

Responsibilities:

  • Perform psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, including geriatric and post-deployment combat veterans, addressing psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support networks.
  • Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions, including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
  • Ensure practice of psychiatric medicine aligns with The Joint Commission (TJC), CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education.
  • Deliver a full range of psycho-diagnostic services, including assessment and the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques for quality care.
  • Serve as a mental health team leader, coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals.
  • Participate effectively in team meetings, treatment planning conferences, and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to enhance comprehensive patient care.
  • Order diagnostic tests and consultations, discriminate between normal and abnormal findings, and make appropriate treatment decisions.
  • May participate in supervision and teaching for the psychiatric residency program, perform on-call duties, and other directly related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • United States Citizenship or Green Card Holder
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
