NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, located in the heart of Brooklyn, accommodate more than 518,076 outpatient visits, more than 141,328 emergency room visits, and with 627 beds, more than 25,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.

Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.

Responsibilities:

The Behavioral Health Service at NYC H+H/ Kings County Hospital, in collaboration with the Psychiatry Residency Training Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, is seeking an Associate Program Director (APD) to take a major academic and leadership role at Kings County Hospital, the major teaching affiliate for the residency training program. The APD will provide clinical services and head residency training activities at NYC H+H/ Kings County. The Department has the opportunity to train up to 48 residents, and also sponsors fellowships in Child and Adolescent and Consult Liaison Psychiatry.

The successful candidate will have a track record of interdisciplinary collaboration in clinical and educational settings and will be interested in and devoted to educational program development, faculty development, and mentorship. Experience working with colleagues and patients from diverse backgrounds, leadership of multidisciplinary teams, and familiarity with ACGME requirements, is strongly preferred. This position carries a SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University appointment of Instructor, Assistant or Associate Professor, available commensurate with SUNY Downstate criteria. The position is a protected half-time (0.5FTE) position, with the remaining time devoted to clinical activities commensurate with the candidate’s interest and training. No previous training director experience is required, however it is a distinct advantage, as is having served as a Chief Resident or Fellow.

He/she/they will work in collaboration with the Residency Training Program Director in all aspects of the Residency Training Program, while receiving administrative support by an Assistant Program Coordinator and Program Administrator. Clinical Care (approximately 0.5 FTE)

  • Commensurate with the candidate’s interest and training- may include Outpatient, CPEP, or Inpatient Service

Residency Program Administration (approximately 0.5 FTE)

  • Oversight of administrative and clinical matters on the rotations done at Kings County- including Adult Inpatient, CPEP, Addictions, PHP, CL, Adult and Child Outpatient Programs
    • Creation and Maintenance of Rotation Goals and Objectives
    • Collaboration with local Medical Directors
    • Escalation and coordination with Chief Residents
    • Regular check-ins with residents on the KCHC services
    • Maintenance and coordination of Resident Call Schedule
  • Participation in recruitment including application screening, interviewing, and match list consultation
  • Coordination of didactics including curriculum development and instruction
  • Participation in Resident Semi-Annual Reviews
  • Attendance at relevant meetings and conferences

Special projects as required (ACGME visit prep, website upkeep, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Must be board eligible or board certified in Psychiatry
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited school of medicine
  • Completed residency training in an accredited program within Psychiatry
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required prior to hire
