Physiatrist Opportunity Profile
VBHS- Harlingen is in pursuit of Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification. The improvements and added resources have positioned VBHS- HRL as the only provider of Comprehensive Stroke Services in the RGV. The volume of Neuro referred patients has grown exponentially. In addition to the increased neuro population we are seeing a significant growth in ortho joint replacement patients as a result of coordination and collaborative programs to provide the highest quality joint replacement services in the RGV. These two highest quality regional differentiating services require the same highest level of IP rehab services to provide in the continuum of care. VBHS-HRL has an 18 bed IP rehab unit with a sole private practice physiatry provider. The opportunity to grow the IP rehab services to include, but not limited to, certification by CARF in stroke, increased capacity and increased utilization by community physicians requires additional and expanded Physiatry services. The addition of an employed physiatrist will provide improved engagement by the provider to pursue the required certifications that the VBHS-HRL patients deserve. The new employed physiatrist will be able to provide additional oversight and improved outcomes for the current patient population. The addition of an employed, engaged physiatrist will not only assist in desperately needed CARF certifications but will allow the institution to be well positioned for expansion of capacity and additional services such as advancement to Level II trauma designation.
