Outdoor recreation, music, and community events characterize life in St. Lawrence County. Numerous State Parks and the beautiful Adirondack Park are within easy reach. Cross-country skiing, water-skiing, ice-fishing, ice-skating, hiking, road biking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and recreational league team sports abound. Downhill skiing is available at family-friendly Titus Mountain near Malone, NY, and world-class winter sports of all types can be sampled in Lake Placid, site of two Winter Olympic Games and home to the Olympic Training Center and Whiteface Mountain. Lake Placid is an easy day-trip from most locations in the County, as are the cosmopolitan Canadian capital city of Ottawa, and the city of Montreal. Sport fishing, sailing, kayaking, and power-boating are abundant on the St. Lawrence River or any of numerous rivers or tributaries that feed it. A strong spirit of volunteerism and service to others pervades the community. With its colleges and outdoor attractions, St. Lawrence County provides small-town living at its most vibrant.
