Job Responsibilities

Serve our community as a Peds Hospitalist providing Critical Care
The Division of Critical Care Medicine at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) are seeking dedicated hospitalists to join our teams in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Transitional Care Unit (TCUP). Appointments will be at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank within the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical faculty series, commensurate with experience and training.

Position Overview:
• Serve as a frontline clinician during both day and night shifts under the supervision of Pediatric Critical Care Attending Physicians.
• Perform procedures (e.g., intubation, central and arterial line placement, sedation) with appropriate supervision.
• Participate in the management of complex patients, including those requiring artificial life support such as ECMO and VAD.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team including cardiothoracic surgeons, nurse practitioners, residents, fellows, and faculty.
• Attend and contribute to educational conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and research opportunities if desired.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
• Ideal for Early-Career Physicians: This is an excellent opportunity for recent pediatric residency graduates looking to gain experience in high-acuity settings while exploring career paths in pediatric critical care, cardiology, or other acute care specialties.
• Robust Clinical Experience: Work alongside expert faculty to care for complex patients, including those with congenital heart disease, and develop procedural and diagnostic skills in a supportive teaching environment.
• Flexible Scheduling: Shifts will include both daytime and overnight coverage. We are open to discussing scheduling preferences, including applicants with interest in night coverage.
• Collaborative Environment: You will be part of a team that values professional development, mentorship, and collaboration across disciplines.

Position Availability: We are currently seeking three faculty to join the PCICU team and one faculty member for the PICU/TCUP team. Moonlighting opportunities within the Benioff Children's Hospital system may also be available.

What We’re Looking For:
• Board-eligible or board-certified in Pediatrics
• MD, DO, or MBBS
• An active and unrestricted California license by the time of hire.
• A strong interest in a career in academic pediatrics, specifically pediatric critical care and/or pediatric cardiology

• Competitive compensation and UC benefits, including pension and health coverage.
• Access to premier facilities, cutting-edge technologies, and UCSF’s integrated health system.
• A culture of innovation, teamwork, and academic excellence.
• Opportunities to grow in leadership, education, and research.

Why Live & Work in Parnassus & Mission Bay — A Physician’s Perspective
• Living Mission Bay and Parnassus means being at the heart of one of the most vibrant medical communities in the country. Whether you're walking to rounds at UCSF or collaborating on research across disciplines, these neighborhoods offer more than just proximity — they offer purpose.
• Parnassus has a quiet, residential feel. It’s tucked into the hills near Golden Gate Park, with leafy streets, old Victorians, and a sense of calm that’s rare in a city. Mission Bay is sleek and modern, built for innovation. It’s where medicine meets biotech, and where new ideas get tested, scaled, and launched.
• But life here isn’t just about work. You’re surrounded by culture — museums, music, food from every corner of the world. You can finish a long shift and be at the symphony or a street food festival within the hour. You can walk through eucalyptus forests, kayak along the bay, or grab dim sum with colleagues before heading home.
• Transit is easy. Muni, Caltrain, BART — it’s all connected. Whether you’re commuting, catching a flight, or just heading across town, you’re covered.
• And most importantly, there’s a sense of community. You’re not just another physician in a big city. You’re part of something — a network of people who care deeply about their work, their patients, and each other.
