Reports to: Chief Medical Officer

Position Overview

Park West Health System is seeking a mission-driven Chief of Pediatrics to provide clinical and administrative leadership for pediatric services in a large, community-based ambulatory setting.

This role is structured as an approximate 70 percent clinical and 30 percent administrative split, allowing the Chief of Pediatrics to maintain an active pediatric patient panel while leading provider development, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and program innovation. The position plays a key role in advancing high-quality, culturally competent pediatric care for children and families in Baltimore.

Qualifications

Education and Licensure

  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics, Family Practice, or Medicine/Pediatrics
  • Active, unrestricted Maryland medical license (or ability to obtain)
  • Active, unrestricted DEA registration
  • Experience with electronic medical records, managed care, and PCMH requirements

Experience

  • Ambulatory care experience required
  • Prior supervisory and administrative experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across clinical and operational teams
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge of Joint Commission, HRSA, and other regulatory standards

Knowledge and Skills

  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, culturally competent care to underserved communities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with provider engagement, retention, and performance management
  • Ability to manage multiple clinical and administrative priorities
  • Familiarity with budgeting, quality metrics, patient safety, and infection control standards

Key Responsibilities

Clinical and Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide direct pediatric clinical care consistent with the 70 percent clinical portion of the role
  • Serve as a member of the medical leadership team and attend leadership meetings as directed
  • Act as a provider advocate and super user for the electronic medical record system
  • Lead pediatric quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and best practice standards
  • Promote integration of pediatric services with behavioral health, dental, and other disciplines

Provider Leadership and Department Operations

  • Partner with Human Resources on provider recruitment, onboarding, credentialing, and privileging
  • Support provider retention, satisfaction, and professional development
  • Coordinate provider schedules to maximize coverage and ensure patient access
  • Mentor, supervise, and evaluate pediatric providers and assigned staff
  • Monitor provider productivity and intervene when performance standards are not met
  • Ensure provider participation in organizational committees and initiatives
  • Represent pediatric services in community and stakeholder discussions as directed
  • Assist with oversight of medical student, resident, PA, and APRN training programs
  • Participate in service expansion, innovation, and preventive care initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
