The University of Virginia (UVA) Department of Pediatrics, Division of Primary Care Pediatrics, invites applications for the position of Division Director of Primary Care Pediatrics. We seek an accomplished academic pediatric generalist with demonstrated leadership experience to advance our clinical, educational, and research missions. Candidates at the rank of Associate or Full Professor are encouraged to apply. This position may be tenure-eligible, depending on the candidate’s credentials and scholarly accomplishments.

Position Summary

The Division Director will provide visionary and strategic leadership for the Division of Primary Care Pediatrics, overseeing all aspects of its clinical services, educational programs, research initiatives, and faculty development. The Director will work collaboratively with departmental and health system leadership to align divisional goals with the broader strategic priorities of the Department of Pediatrics and UVA Health Children’s.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring divisional faculty to promote professional growth, scholarship, and excellence in clinical care.

  • Expanding innovative clinical programs and community partnerships to enhance access and quality of pediatric care.

  • Overseeing the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers.

  • Supporting and fostering research and quality improvement initiatives within the Division.

  • Promoting a culture of collaboration, inclusion, inquiry, and innovation across all missions.

An active research program is desirable but not required. The successful candidate will also participate in direct clinical care within the Division.

The Division is composed of dedicated clinicians, educators, and researchers committed to improving the health and well-being of children and families across Virginia. Faculty expertise spans a broad range of areas including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) research, Breastfeeding Medicine, Quality Improvement, and Medical Education. The Division emphasizes excellence in community engagement, preventive health, and evidence-based clinical practice.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree required

  • Board certification in Pediatrics

  • Eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic medical setting

  • Strong record of clinical excellence, teaching, and scholarly achievement

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia
