JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the VP Clinical Services & Chief Medical Officer or delegatee, staff
Physicians shall provide professional medical care and treatment services for our patients. The Physician shall perform all professional duties in accordance with corporate policies
and procedures, as well as established standards of care.

Job Responsibilities

DUTIES PERFORMED
 Provides patient care visits in an outpatient setting, in an organized and efficient manner, regularly
meeting or exceeding established productivity goals by the end of the first year of employment.
 Provides comprehensive care for a patient panel, seeing patients for both acute care and scheduled
visits, unless assigned to an urgent care/“walk-in” or specialty position.
 Evaluates patient problems thoroughly and appropriately.
 Prescribes or plans appropriate and effective treatment.
 Provides clear documentation of patient visit notes, orders, telephone calls, clinical flow sheets and
other records as required by quality standards.
 Demonstrates excellent communication skills. Effectively communicates with patients, families and
other staff members.
 Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making skills and practices within his/her scope of
expertise and licensure.
 Consults with other physicians appropriately; knows when to seek advice. Refers patients requiring
inpatient services to Teaching Service or Hospitalist Service at the patient’s hospital of choice,
performing appropriate hand-off of care and following up with the patient after discharge from
hospital.
 Demonstrates teamwork by working effectively with all team members, attending and participating
actively in group meetings and conferring with practice manager and/or clinical managers (ie lab,
pharmacy, nursing) about any issues that arise.
 Responds to organizational needs for leave coverage, office emergencies, chart completion, forms
completion, peer review, lab review, and other needs in a cooperative fashion.

 Consistently demonstrates a professional demeanor and appearance. Serves as a good role model for
staff and students.
 Stays current in professional field and follows principles of evidence-based medicine. Follows clinical
guidelines adopted by the Corporation.
 Serves as a preceptor or other resource for mid-level practitioners. May also precept clinical students
on a voluntary basis.
 Establishes rapport with public and private clinical care referral resources.
 Participates in CQI meetings, peer review sessions and special projects or activities that promote
improvement in organizational performance and/or advance the mission, goals and objectives of New
Horizon Family Health Services.
 Observes schedule for work, breaks and lunch. Responds cooperatively to changes in schedule and
work assignments. Demonstrates flexibility in meeting patient care needs outside regular working
hours.
 Must hold all patient Protected Health Information (PHI) other patient personal information and
agency information in confidence, in accordance with the attached Employee Confidentiality
Statement.
 Actively participate in and comply with all aspects of the our Corporate Compliance Program,
follow the Program Code of Conduct and obey all relevant laws, statutes, regulations and requirements
applicable to Medicaid, Medicare and other State and Federal health care programs.
 Performs other duties that may be assigned by the VP Clinical Services & Chief Medical Officer
and/or President & Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Must have successfully completed medical training at a four (4) year, accredited Medical School and
received an M.D. or D.O. degree.
Licensure/Certification
 Must be licensed to practice Medicine in South Carolina.
 Must be Board-eligible, become Board-Certified within 1 year of initial hire date and continue to
maintain Board Certification for the length of employment with us.

 Extensive knowledge of the techniques and skills necessary to diagnose and properly treat diseases and
injuries.
 A working knowledge of the administrative practices and procedures, rules, regulations and policies
that govern the rendering of responsible medical and nursing care.
 A working knowledge of public health and preventative care guidelines.
 Excellent communication skills.
 The ability to relate with warmth and compassion to patients and co-workers.
 The ability to effectively supervise professional and non-professional employees in their clinical
duties.
