Locum Physician – Hospitalist Pediatric

Shift: 24-hour call, 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM

Position Details:

• 3 months and ongoing
• 5–7 shifts per month
• 24-hour call shifts
• Multiple consecutive 24-hour shifts may be available based on coverage needs
• Provider may remain out of the hospital when there are no acute hospital issues
• Must be able to return to the hospital within 20 minutes at all times while on call
• Weekday and weekend coverage required
• 4 hours gratis if called in for patient care

Patient Population:

• Newborn Nursery
• High-risk deliveries
• ER consults
• Pediatric inpatient unit
• Typically 4–10 newborns
• 0–3 inpatient pediatrics
• Level 1 nursery with high-risk deliveries
• Must be able to resuscitate and stabilize critically ill newborns pending transport to NICU

Setting:
Acute Care Hospital

Responsibilities:

• Provide 24-hour pediatric call coverage
• Cover newborn nursery
• Attend high-risk deliveries
• Provide ER consultations
• Provide care for pediatric inpatients
• Resuscitate and stabilize critically ill newborns when needed
• Remain within a 20-minute radius of the facility while on call

Required Procedures:

• Newborn resuscitation and stabilization

EMR System:
Epic

Support Staff:

• 1 MD pediatrics (locum or staff)
• 1 MD obstetrics and/or midwife
• CNA/CMA
• 24/7 anesthesia coverage, CRNA or MD

Days Per Month:
5–7 shifts per month

On-Call/Weekends:
24-hour call shifts, including weekday and weekend coverage

Submission Requirements:

• Board Certified Pediatrician only
• NY State License in hand
• NRP, PALS, and BLS
• AHA or RQI certifications
