About Walterboro, South Carolina:
Nestled in the heart of South Carolina's Lowcountry, Walterboro is the gateway to the ACE Basin — one of the largest undeveloped estuaries on the East Coast and a paradise for kayaking, fishing, and birdwatching. The town boasts an 842-acre Wildlife Sanctuary right within city limits, historic antebellum architecture along the Walterboro Wildlife Sanctuary Trail, and the legendary Edisto River for world-class blackwater paddling. Median home prices hover around $250K, and you're just an hour from Charleston's James Beard Award-winning restaurants, beaches on Folly and Kiawah Islands, and MUSC's academic medical campus. Colleton County schools offer small class sizes and personal attention, while Summerville and Charleston suburbs provide additional options. The cost of living runs 15% below the national average — your salary stretches further here than almost anywhere on the East Coast.
