The University of Virginia (UVA) Department of Pediatrics invites applications for the position of Division Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. We seek an accomplished and visionary pediatric gastroenterologist at the Associate or Full Professor level to lead a dynamic and growing division at one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers.

Position Summary
The Division Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of the Division’s mission, including clinical services, education, research, faculty development, and administration. The successful candidate will foster innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient- and family-centered care.
Key responsibilities include:

Setting a clear vision for the Division and aligning goals with the Department of Pediatrics and UVA Health Children’s strategic plans.

Supporting and mentoring faculty across clinical, educational, and scholarly domains.

Overseeing the ACGME-accredited fellowship program and promoting excellence in trainee education.

Expanding the Division’s clinical and research footprint, including fostering interdisciplinary and translational collaborations.

Maintaining an active clinical presence within pediatric gastroenterology.
Candidates with a record of research achievement and leadership in academic medicine are strongly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to those with established research programs, as the Division currently manages multiple NIH R01 grants and benefits from robust philanthropic support.

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition comprises eight faculty members with expertise in:

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

Pediatric liver transplantation

Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGID)

Quality improvement

Medical education
The Division provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care to children from across Virginia and beyond, with over 7,000 outpatient visits and 1,500 procedures annually. Care delivery is supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes nurse practitioners, psychologists, dietitians, nurse care coordinators, therapists, and social workers.
Active quality improvement initiatives focus on inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplantation, and mental health support for children with chronic illness.

Qualifications

M.D. or D.O. degree

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Gastroenterology

Eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank (tenure or non-tenure track, as appropriate)

Demonstrated leadership, academic achievement, and clinical excellence

Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia
