Job Description

Last Update: 10/01/19

Pottstown Hospital, a member of Tower Health, provides a complete line of healthcare services in Eastern Pennsylvania. We are seeking an associate pathologist to join the department of pathology. Two FTE pathologists are currently employed. The position is available due to the impending retirement of its' medical director. The practice is based at Pottstown Hospital, a 200-bed facility located in Pottstown Pennsylvania. The healthcare system also includes numerous physician offices offering multiple specialties as well as separate sites for same day surgery, post-acute and rehabilitation patients. Sixteen laboratory patient service centers are located throughout the county and are integrated into the system to support the overall mission.

The successful applicant will be board certified in both AP and CP, and ideally will have developed broad interests in oncologic, general surgical pathology, and clinical pathology. The applicant must have three to five years of experience in both general AP/CP, preferably in a community hospital setting. Fellowship training in either cytopathology or surgical pathology is preferable. Expertise in the medical supervision of a blood bank will be a major plus. The new colleague must also be comfortable with all aspects of professional communication, as the department supports multidisciplinary conferences, especially those focused on the management of oncology patients.

The pathology practice averages six thousand surgicals, seven hundred non-GYN cytologies, one hundred bone marrows, and one hundred-forty external consultations annually. Autopsies and GYN paps are no longer performed.

The immediate urban and suburban areas abound in cultural and recreational opportunities, and the surrounding countryside consists of picturesque farmlands and slowly rolling hills ideal for many outdoor activities. Ocean beaches and the world class cites of New York and Philadelphia are at most within a few hours drive, making weekends and even day trips to an infinity of attractions entirely feasible.

Board Certified Pathologist with administrative experience with knowledge of CAP/Joint Commission Accreditation standards is also desirable, along with strong communication skills.
