A prestigious non-profit regional health system in Syracuse is seeking a dedicated Pathologist to support their hospital-based lab. This role offers a professional environment within a "Best Regional Hospital" and a Level 3 Trauma Center, serving a diverse patient population across Central New York and Northern Pennsylvania.

The Opportunity

Join a collaborative laboratory team consisting of 4 physicians, 5 histotechnologists, and specialized support staff, including pathology assistants and cytotechnologists.

• Clinical Scope: Responsibilities focus on general anatomic pathology, frozen section analysis, and cytology. You will be responsible for grossing your own specimens and cutting frozen sections on the cryostat.

• Case Volume: The facility manages approximately 13,000 surgical specimens and 3,000 cytology specimens annually.

• Technology & Equipment: Utilize high-end diagnostics including the Hologic ThinPrep integrated imager, Avantik cryostats, and Nikon/Olympus microscopy. Documentation is streamlined via EPIC/Beaker.

• Schedule: Coverage is needed for several blocks throughout the year:

  • June – July: 6/1–7/19, 7/6–7/10, 7/13–7/17

  • Fall: 9/7–9/11, 10/5–10/16

  • End of Year: All of November and December

• No Call: This is a strictly daytime coverage role with no on-call requirements.

Compensation & Logistics

• Daily Rate: Competitive daily rates starting at $3,100 per day.

• Credentialing: Estimated timeframe is 40–45 days.

• Professional Environment: Work alongside other Pathologists in a well-supported, non-supervisory role.

Candidate Requirements

To maintain the quality standards of this nationally recognized cardiac and surgical program, candidates must meet the following:

• Board Certification: Must be Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology (AP).

• Licensure: Active New York State Medical License is required.

• Proficiency: Must pass the Cytology Proficiency Exam for GYN Cytology (ThinPrep method).

• Clinical Skills: Proficiency in surgical pathology and cytology is mandatory.

• Documentation: A current Self-Query NPDB report (pulled within the last 30 days) is required at the time of presentation.
