Job description
Currently, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine professional staff consists of 42 pathologist and 2 PhD's. The Community group is made up of 11 pathologists who currently staff 5 hospitals within the greater New Orleans Area. Additionally, there are 18 pathologists who practice primarily anatomic pathology at the Ochsner Medical Center-New Orleans campus and provide expertise with subspecialty training and interest in dermatopathology, transplant pathology, GU, Breast, GYN Onc and GI pathology as well as cytopathology. There are additionally 12 clinical pathologists with expertise in transfusion medicine, hematopathlogy, microbiology and clinical chemistry as well as a PhD Clinical Chemist and a PhD Clinical Microbiologist.
This current advertised position is for a position in one of our greater New Orleans Hospital locations as part of our Anatomic or Community Pathologist Group.
The Ochsner health system currently processes approximately 95,000 surgical cases and 50,000 cytology cases annually. There is a vast spectrum of cases, with a wide range of complexity. The department supports a solid organ transplantation program and comprehensive oncology services, including a state-of-the-art breast cancer center and a bone marrow transplant program. As Ochsner Medical Center is an academic institution, the Department supports the academic initiatives of the organization and serves as an affiliate training site for 2 local accredited pathology training programs as well as rotating medical students.
