A leading pathology practice group in Scottsbluff, Nebraska is looking to welcome a full-time, direct-hire, permanent, Pathologist to their tight-knit team. This role offers a great partnership track opportunity! Relocation assistance provided.

Pathologist Physician Opportunity:

  • Relocation Assistance: Matched by covering expenses with moving receipts
  • Compensation Structure: The compensation package for this Pathologist role is dynamic, reflecting the evolving team structure. If the start date aligns with July 2024, coinciding with a partner's retirement, the beginning salary and bonus package will be $400,000. However, if the candidate commences earlier, the salary will be adjusted to reflect the shared workload and pay among three pathologists. This ensures fair compensation aligned with the team's size and responsibilities.
  • Benefits: 401K/profit sharing plan with maximum contribution allowed by law, HSA funding to the legal maximum, $500K AD&D policy (extendable), $20K annual education/book allowance, health insurance (excluding dental/vision)
  • Workload: The Pathology group as a whole is responsible for approx. 7,500 surgical cases per year (mostly biopsies). Additionally, duties include on-site evaluations for adequacy of FNAs, kidney biopsies for medical renal disease, and EBUS procedures. Frozen sections are performed quite infrequently and would include typical cases for a pathology practice. Approximately 90 bone marrows and a little over 300 FNAs are examined annually. Pathologists are required to engage in detailed analysis of various specimens, with emphasis on skin, breast, GI, and GYN biopsies, as well as excisions from all anatomic sites
  • Common large cases include: mastectomies/lumpectomies, colon resections, and hysterectomies
  • Schedule: The workday is dynamic rather than fixed to specific hours. Providers will typically start their day upon arrival and conclude once their workload is completed. While there's no rigid 4 or 8-hour shift, the medical group's goal is to sign out 95% of cases on the same day they are received. Some complex cases might require additional time - The team generally stays until 2 p.m. each day.
  • On-Call: Shared equally, typically quiet with rare hospital visits. If called in, you would be responsible for evaluating and dictating peripheral blood smears. During weekends, that has been 2 to 3, but may occasionally be 7 to 8.

Pathologist Responsibilities:

  • Strong focus on surgical pathology and non-gyn cytopathology
  • The Pathologist will serve as medical director at CAHs throughout the Nebraska Panhandle (Facilities would be no longer than 1-2 hours away. Meetings/reviews can generally be conduced via Teams/Zoom but on-site visits are generally required quarterly or semiannually

1.) Selected FNA procedures, to include deciding what additional samples should be obtained (e.g. flow cytometry, microbiology cultures, etc.). These studies are apart of the groups "on-site evaluations for adequacy program"

2.) EBUS procedures conducted by pulmonary physicians.

3.) Rare frozen sections, including cutting and staining

4.) Kidney biopsies for medical renal disease, with renal biopsies sent to Mayo Laboratory for final diagnosis
