Forensics Pathology in Greenville NC

Located in Greenville, North Carolina, are seeking a BE/BC forensic pathologist. Applicants should be board certified by the American Board of Pathology in either anatomic pathology (AP) or anatomic and clinical pathology (AP/CP) certified in forensic pathology (FP). New graduates and visa candidates are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, and advances in the field of forensic pathology and medicolegal death investigation is necessary.

Providing a broad range of clinical services in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology for hospital and clinic patients. The Department houses AP/CP residency and forensic pathology fellowship programs. The mission of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is to improve the health and well-being of the citizens of Eastern North Carolina and beyond by delivering high quality pathology services, by providing exemplary education for medical students, residents, and other health care professionals, and by creating new knowledge through research. As the field of Pathology continues to evolve, the Department will continue to uphold its commitment to provide the best diagnosis and treatment monitoring services to the citizens of eastern North Carolina.

Highlights include:

  • This is a level 1 trauma, 974 bed Academic Medical Center, 2nd largest in NC
  • Established program with two forensic pathologists and one pathologist assistant in the Eastern Regional Autopsy Center in Greenville, North Carolina
  • Eastern Regional Autopsy Center completes 600 -650 medical examiner autopsies and 500-550 external examinations annually
  • Center also serves at the autopsy service for ECU Health Medical Center, teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine, by completing 80-100 medical autopsies each year

Clinical responsibilities:

  • Reviewing investigative reports to determine jurisdiction.
  • Determining the need for and extent of postmortem examination.
  • Direction of assistants in preparing bodies for autopsy including appropriate photography for documentation.
  • Performing autopsies and obtaining appropriate specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Performing microscopic analysis when appropriate.
  • Determination of cause and manner of death.
  • Preparation and completion of reports of findings in a timely manner.
  • Review of current literature as necessary to assist in formulation of decisions.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court
  • Teaching of medical students, residents, fellows and law enforcement personnel.
  • Consult with prosecution and defense attorneys in preparation for court proceedings.
