The Department of Pathology at this coastal medical school is currently recruiting for a full-time BC/BE Clinical pathologist with American Board of Pathology certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine. The opening is for an assistant/associate/full professor on a clinical track.

The Department of Pathology serves the university’s 2 hospitals, its cancer center, patient center, a free­standing ED and multiple clinics throughout the area. The hospital is a Level I Trauma Center.

The transfusion medicine section is accredited by the AABB and College of American Pathologists (CAP). Approximately 10,000 units of pRBC are transfused yearly and this division supports Massive Transfusion Protocols (MTPs). This area is also responsible to provide transfusion consultation services for high-risk surgeries and ob-gyn operations. There is a large Sickle Cell patient population that is followed at the health system sickle cell clinic. There is no in-house donor collection center.

Molecular/next generation sequencing, immunohistochemistry, FISH, and electron microscopy laboratories are part of the sophisticated menu of tests available.
