REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree/Education: MD or DO degree, completed ACGME accredited residency training program in Anesthesiology and ACGME accredited fellowship training program in Pain Medicine.
• Certifications: Must hold and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) (Course C), Advanced Life Support (ALS), Pediatric Life Supports (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS). Certification must be through the American Heart Association or a Red Cross-approved training program. Members must present proof of current certification(s) Computer-based training does not constitute fulfilling the training requirements. Must maintain currency at NO cost to the government. Recertification is NOT provided by the MTF. Credential may not lapse for any period of time.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the practice of anesthesiology (post residency) and pain medicine (post fellowship). Must have been in full time employment during the previous year performing both perioperative anesthesiology and outpatient pain medicine.
• Board Certification: Contractor must be dual board certified in the specialty of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine through the American Board of Anesthesiology.
• Licensure/Registration: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

DUTIES:
• Performs the Full Spectrum of Services of a physician trained as an Anesthesiologist and Pain Medicine Physician compatible with the medical facilities operating capacity and equipment.
• Provide consultation services for outpatients and inpatients with chronic pain to include appropriate physical and diagnostic workup. Orders appropriate procedures and interventions for the treatment of chronic pain which may be performed in the outpatient clinic, outpatient procedure suite, operating room, or hybrid operating rooms.
• Provide consultation services to other healthcare providers and specialist to assist in the evaluation and management of patients with chronic pain.
• Provide professional guidance to the facility in regard to process improvement, patient safety, and equipment procurement with respects to the treatment of chronic pain.
• Participate in committees or working groups with respects to the treatment of chronic pain as deemed appropriate by the Medical Director or Flight Commander.
• PROCEDURE GUIDANCE. Contractor providers shall perform procedures compatible with the medical facility's operating capacity and equipment. New medical procedures/services shall not be introduced without prior recommendation to, and approval of, the MTF Commander or authorized representative.
• Provide consultation/treatment for conscious sedation for procedures such as elective cardioversion, gastrointestinal procedures and MRI/diagnostic imaging. Provide consultation for difficult intravenous line insertion and elective and urgent airway management/endotracheal intubation.
• Share primary, secondary and backup call status on a rotational basis approximately 3 to 4 days per month with assigned anesthesiologists and anesthetists as determined by the Flight Commander

• Attend as a member: Pain Element Meetings, Anesthesia Element Meetings, Morbidity and Mortality Meetings, Professional Staff Meetings, and other committee meetings as directed by the Flight Commander.
• Participate in all departmental performance improvement (PI) and Peer Review as directed by the Flight Commander.
• May care for patients in all age groups. Demonstrates competence in the assessment, treatment, and care of the specific patients served whose ages range from infancy through adolescence, adulthood, and geriatrics.
• Works in collaboration with other anesthesia providers and provides consultation for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA’s).
• The anesthesiologist shall ensure equipment is ready for use, equipment check procedures are correctly performed and only properly functioning, patient safe equipment is used.
• The anesthesiologist shall take appropriate safety precautions to minimize the risks of fire, explosion, electrical shock and equipment malfunction.
