Job description
We are seeking an Orthopedic Surgeon for essential locum tenens coverage. This role focuses on inpatient and emergency call services across two premier medical centers in Northeast Iowa to fill vacation gaps. Join a collaborative, multi-specialty team within Iowa’s largest health network, supported by advanced diagnostic and pharmacy services.
-Schedule: 24-hour call; specific blocks in August and October/November.
-Location: Waterloo, IA and Cedar Falls, IA.
-Team: 4 Physicians and 4 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
-Charting: Epic Enterprise EMR with integrated Lab, Pharmacy, and Medical Imaging.
Job Responsibilities
-Perform history and physical exams; evaluate, diagnose, and treat various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the extremities, spine, and associated structures.
-Manage surgical and medical care for trauma, infections, tumors, metabolic disturbances, deformities, and degenerative diseases.
-Manage a daily hospital practice census of 10–20 patients across both locations.
-Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions in a Level III Trauma Center setting
Qualifications
-Education: Fellowship training in Orthopedic Surgery [REQUIRED].
-Licensure: Active Iowa Medical License or Active IMLC (must upload LOQ at time of name clear) [REQUIRED].
-Experience: Must be an experienced surgeon; clean malpractice and background history required.
-Credentialing: Most recent NPDB report (pulled within the last 90 days) required prior to start.

-Availability: Strictly looking for coverage during these two blocks (Job #65559):
Wednesday, August 5 (7 AM) – Monday, August 10 (7 AM)
Monday, October 26 (7 AM) – Friday, November 6 (7 AM)
Skills
-Ability to manage a diverse patient population of all ages in an inpatient setting.
-Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with hospital-based medical staff and imaging/lab teams.
