Locum Tenens Orthopedic Surgery Physician Needs in Iowa!

ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a locum tenens Orthopedic Surgery Physician to provide temporary inpatient and on-call coverage. The physician will cover vacation gaps with no clinic responsibilities. This role focuses on hospital-based orthopedic care for patients of all ages.

Dates / Schedule

Locum Tenens On-Call Coverage Only

• August 5 (7:00 AM) – August 10 (7:00 AM)

• October 26 (7:00 AM) – November 6 (7:00 AM)

Coverage includes inpatient care and on-call services at both facilities.
No outpatient clinic duties required.

Job Details & Responsibilities

Coverage Details

• Reason: Vacation/time-off coverage gaps

• Inpatient and call coverage at both locations

• Average daily census: 10–20 patients (combined)

• EMR: Epic Enterprise

• Medical imaging, lab, and pharmacy services available

• No supervision of Advanced Practice Providers required

• No telehealth or outreach

Clinical Responsibilities

• Conduct history and physical exams

• Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and treat orthopedic conditions

• Provide consultation services for musculoskeletal injuries and diseases

• Manage trauma, infections, tumors, degenerative diseases, deformities, metabolic disturbances, and neuromuscular conditions

• Perform surgical and non-surgical treatments involving the spine, extremities, and associated structures

• Provide ICU care in accordance with unit policies

• Assess and stabilize emergent cases and determine patient disposition per medical staff policy

Team Composition

• 4 Physicians

• 4 Advanced Practice Providers

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery (Required)

• Fellowship Trained in Orthopedic Surgery (Required)

• Active Iowa (IA) Medical License or Active IMLC (LOQ required at name clear)

• Must be experienced in orthopedic inpatient and on-call care

• Must be available to cover both specified date blocks

• Clean malpractice and background history (NPDB report required; dated within 30–90 days)
