Locum Orthopedic Surgeon – Waterloo & Cedar Falls, IA

Overview

An established healthcare system in Iowa is seeking a Board Certified, Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon for 24-hour on-call locum coverage at two affiliated medical centers. This role includes inpatient and call coverage only (no clinic responsibilities).

Coverage Dates (Must Cover Both Blocks)

• August 5 at 7:00 AM – August 10 at 7:00 AM
• October 26 at 7:00 AM – November 6 at 7:00 AM
• 24-hour on-call shifts
• No outpatient clinic duties

Practice Setting

• Coverage at two medical centers (Waterloo & Cedar Falls)
• Average daily hospital census: 10–20 patients (combined locations)
• EMR: Epic Enterprise
• 4 Orthopedic Physicians and 4 APPs on staff
• No supervision of APPs required
• Medical Imaging, Lab & Pharmacy available onsite
• Patient population: All ages
• Level III Trauma Center facility

Clinical Responsibilities

• Inpatient orthopedic coverage and emergency consults
• Perform history & physical exams, evaluate, diagnose, and treat musculoskeletal conditions
• Manage trauma, infections, tumors, metabolic disorders, degenerative diseases, and deformities
• Provide surgical and non-surgical treatment of extremities, spine, hands, feet, hips, knees, shoulders, and elbows
• Assess and stabilize emergent orthopedic conditions
• Provide ICU care as needed per unit policies

Candidate Requirements

• Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery – REQUIRED
• Fellowship Trained – REQUIRED
• Active Iowa License OR Active IMLC (LOQ required at name clear) – REQUIRED
• Must be experienced – REQUIRED
• Must be available to cover BOTH listed date blocks – REQUIRED
• Clean malpractice and background history – REQUIRED
• NPDB (within last 30–90 days) – REQUIRED
