Job description
ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a Board-Certified Locum Orthopedic Surgeon to provide 24-hour call and clinic coverage across two required date blocks in March and April, with potential for ongoing assignments. The role combines trauma call, inpatient consults, OR time, and follow-up clinic care in a busy Level III trauma center serving a large regional population. Candidates must be able to perform a full spectrum of orthopedic surgical procedures, including joint replacements and trauma care.

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Call Coverage:

24-hour call coverage

Call overage and follow-up clinic required

Clinical and surgical orthopedic care

Team Structure:

4 Physicians
-
7 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)

1 nurse per provider

3 cast techs (shared among 7 providers)

3 reception staff and 2 surgery schedulers (shared)

2 exam rooms and 3 cast rooms per provider

Hospital Details:

Average hospital census: 160 patients/day (primarily consult-driven)

Serves 16 surrounding counties (population 200,000+)

Medical imaging, lab, and pharmacy onsite

Teaching opportunities (IM, FM residency; PA students)

Procedures Required:
-
Total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements
-
Hand, wrist, knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, and foot surgeries

Trauma injuries and fracture care
-
Sports medicine and related orthopedic disorders
Required Skills & Qualifications
-
Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery (Board Eligible not accepted)

Clean malpractice and background history (Self-Query NPDB required within 30 days)

Active Iowa license or Active IMLC (LOQ required)

Must be able to cover both required date blocks

Must be able to independently perform all listed orthopedic surgical services, including total joint replacements and trauma procedures

Willingness to supervise APPs and manage full-spectrum orthopedic call coverage
