A small rural community hospital with a Level III Trauma Center is seeking an experienced Orthopedic Surgeon for 24/7 emergency department and inpatient consultation coverage. This is an excellent short-term locum opportunity for an actively practicing orthopedist who is comfortable providing full general orthopedic coverage in a community setting.

📍 Facility Overview

• Location: Red Bluff, California

• Setting: Community Hospital

• Licensed Beds: 72

• Trauma Level: Level III

• EMR: Cerner

• Support Staff: OR team available

• Higher-acuity cases transferred to a tertiary facility north of the hospital

📅 Schedule & Coverage

• Coverage Dates: February 13–15 (ending morning of February 16)

• Coverage Type: 24/7 ED coverage and inpatient consultations

• FTE: 1

Average Callback Hours

• Weekdays: ~3.2 hours

• Weekends: ~2 hours

🩺 Required Scope of Practice

• Full general orthopedic coverage

• ED consults and inpatient orthopedic care

• Ability to stabilize and transfer higher-level trauma as needed

✈️ Travel & Lodging

• Preferred Lodging: Holiday Inn or similar

• Air Travel:

  • Fly into Sacramento International Airport (SMF)

  • ~2-hour drive north on I-5 to Red Bluff

  • (Redding airport not recommended)

⏱️ Credentialing

• Locums privileges: ~30 days
  (May be expedited based on provider responsiveness)
  

✅ Submission Requirements (ALL REQUIRED)

• Board Certified or Board Eligible

• Active California medical license

• Completion of ACGME or AOA–approved residency

• DEA (required during credentialing)

• California Fluoroscopy Certificate

• Clean malpractice history strongly preferred

• Availability confirmed at time of name clear

• Self-Query NPDB report (dated within 30 days of presentation)
