Orthopedic Surgeon - Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles General Medical Center is the cornerstone of the safety-net for the largest county in the United States. As one of the largest public hospitals in the US, we are home to one of the largest GME training centers in the US, with more than 950 residents and fellows, representing nearly 1% of all post graduate trainees in the US. The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Los Angeles General Medical Center is seeking clinical faculty to join the team. There are subspecialty needs for Foot & Ankle Services, Hand Services, Infection Services, Oncology Services, Pediatric Orthopedic Services, Podiatry, Trauma Services, Spine and Sports Medicine In addition to clinical services, these physicians will be involved in trainee education, clinical research, and improving the delivery of care. There are excellent opportunities to make an impact by serving the LA population and develop a robust academic career. Important to note, this is heavily geared towards orthopedic trauma as an ACS accredited Level 1 trauma center serving the local communities in L.A. dealing primarily in high energy, blunt force traumas.


About the Division of Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopaedics has an exceptionally busy ambulatory practice in which the faculty provide precepting to fellows and residents as well as provide direct patient care in their own clinics. The patient population is ethnically diverse and characterized by high acuity orthopaedic disorders. LA General Medical Center is one of only 3 Level1 Trauma Centers in Los Angeles, providing an extraordinary volume of complex trauma care and an exceptional training experience. LA General medical Center Orthopaedics is one of only 3 in Los Angeles to offer a hand re-implantation program. Orthopaedic providers in 2022 performed 2500 total surgical cases and cared for approximately 20,000 ambulatory visits. Patients are also seen through the inpatient consultation service. Orthopaedics at LA General Medical Center partners with Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, providing its patients with nationally ranked rehabilitation care and offering extensive training and research opportunities. This site and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center will offer additional sites for providers to conduct elective surgeries. The Department of Orthopedic surgery has developed centers of excellence in the orthopedic subspecialties. The Department of Orthopedic Surgery embraces a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach to patient care programs and research. We work with physical and occupational therapists to enhance patient outcomes. Educating and mentoring a future generation of orthopedic specialists is a high priority for our department. We feature a broad, rich educational program for medical students, residents and fellows. The Department of Orthopedic Surgery provides patients with exceptional medical care for a wide range of orthopedic disorders, with expertise in sports medicine, joint preservation, musculoskeletal oncology, spine care, fracture and trauma care, and foot, ankle and hand surgery. We use robotic surgery to perform minimally invasive procedures to restore mobility and function to our patients and offer a blend of orthopedic and plastic surgery expertise in the treatment of hand and upper extremity disorders. Our specialists also use a multidisciplinary approach to treat patients with musculoskeletal tumors.

Will report to Service Chief of Orthopedic Surgery

Annual Pay Range: $ 419,598 – 562,541


Position Requirements:
• Candidates must have an MD, DO or equivalent degree
• Candidates must be board-certified or board eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
• Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California
• Candidates must have completed a fellowship
• Hand surgeons – must be proficient in microvascular
• Desire to practice at the nations’ largest teaching hospitals at a single site, which is conveniently located on a medical campus adjacent to downtown Los Angeles
• Desire for a rich clinical experience derived from the tremendous variety in pathology
• Passion for providing high quality clinical patient care to an underserved population
• Passion to teach and work with fellows, residents, and medical students
• Interest in participating in scholarly activities
• Opportunities to participate in multidisciplinary conferences, quality initiatives, and hospital committees
