Job description Locums Orthopedic Surgeon (Spine) | Charlotte, NC / Upstate South Carolina Practice Setting: Private Practice – Outpatient Clinic Position Type: Locums Contract Length: Ongoing Start Date: February 9, 2026 (ASAP acceptable) Schedule & Availability
  • Initial Schedule: 1 day per month to start
  • Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Coverage Needed: ~4 shifts per month (very flexible)
  • Setting: Outpatient clinic only
Clinical Focus & Scope
  • Specialty: Orthopedics – Neuro/Spine (non-surgical)
  • Case Mix:
    • 99% non-surgical
    • Spine evaluations and workups to potential surgery (no surgery performed)
    • Whiplash and spine-related injury evaluations
  • Procedures (as comfortable):
    • Epidural injections
    • Facet injections
    • Cortisone injections
    • Joint injections
    • Basic fracture care (helpful, not required)
  • Pain Management:
    • No Schedule II narcotics prescribed
    • Limited local anesthetic use (e.g., lidocaine)
Patient Volume & Population
  • Patients per Day: ~25–30 (new patients included; may be higher)
  • Population: Primarily adults; minimal pediatrics
Technology & Imaging
  • All imaging on PACS
  • No plain film fluoroscopy in-office
  • C-arm access available
  • Imaging often received weeks later (no duplicate imaging preferred)
Team & Support
  • PAs, NPs
  • Physiatrist
  • Pain Anesthesiologist
  • RN support
  • Sports Medicine physician (shoulder cases)
  • Foot & ankle specialist on staff
Licensure & Credentialing (Critical)
  • Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon – REQUIRED
  • Spine Fellowship – REQUIRED (no exceptions)
  • Licensure:
    • NC preferred
    • SC license required for credentialing
  • DEA
