Job Responsibilities
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage general orthopedic conditions and injuries
Perform urgent and emergent orthopedic procedures as required
Collaborate with ED physicians, hospitalists, anesthesia, and OR staff
Utilize OR support services for surgical cases
Manage inpatient orthopedic consults and follow-ups
Stabilize higher-acuity cases and coordinate transfer to higher-level facilities when indicated
Maintain timely and accurate documentation in Cerner EMR
Ensure high-quality, patient-centered care in a community hospital setting
Qualifications
Completion of an ACGME or AOA-approved Orthopedic Surgery residency
Active California medical license (required)
DEA registration (required during credentialing)
California Fluoroscopy Certificate (must be obtained by coverage dates)
Clean malpractice and NPDB history
Must be actively practicing (not directly out of residency with no recent clinical activity)
Ability to provide full general orthopedic coverage
Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently in a community hospital setting
Working Hours
Coverage dates: February 13–15 (ending morning of February 16)
Call includes ED evaluations, inpatient consults, and required procedures
Average callback hours: Weekdays ~3.2 hours, Weekends ~2 hours
Provider must be available onsite as clinically required during the call period
Skills
Strong ability to manage ED and inpatient orthopedic consults
Proficiency in fracture management, reductions, and splinting
Experience with operative and non-operative orthopedic care
Ability to assess and stabilize patients prior to transfer for higher-level care
Effective collaboration with ED, OR, anesthesia, and nursing teams
Comfort working independently in a community hospital setting
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
Proficiency with Cerner EMR or similar systems
