BC/BE Optometrist sought to provide quality eye care and emergency treatment. New grads and Visa candidates are encouraged to apply. The primary focus will be to examine eyes and visual system, diagnose problems or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment. May prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions. The optometrist will collaborate with KVHC providers while acting as a contributing member to the Integrated Primary Care Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Perform vision tests, analyze results and develop a treatment plan
2. Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness.
3. Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications
4. Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
5. Provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery—for example, examining a patient’s eyes the day after surgery
6. Evaluate patients for the presence of diseases such as diabetes and refer patients to other healthcare providers as needed
7. Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary.
8. Promote eye health by counseling patients, including explaining how to clean and wear contact lenses
9. Work closed with PCP in the provision of team delivery of healthcare
10. Maintain accurate, timely and quality health records
11. Participate in all quality measures as required
12. Oversees clinical training, education and consultation to KVHC staff to maximize staff potential.
13. Participate in the Care Team as outlined in Team Approach to Care Protocol
