Ophthalmology Job Details

• Location: Houghton, MI 49931 — Michigan, Upper Peninsula (Michigan ophthalmology jobs)
• Setting: On-site ophthalmology clinic and surgical suite
• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (travel physician contract)
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Preferred Rotation: Two weeks on, two weeks off
• Patient Encounters: Minimum 4 clinic patients per hour; ~20 patients per shift
• Procedures: 12–14 surgeries/procedures per day (cataract surgery, glaucoma, corneal procedures)
• Support: Two efficient and experienced medical assistants to support patient flow
• Nearest Airport: Houghton County Memorial Airport
• Estimated Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (with potential to extend)

Compensation

• Estimated Weekly Salary: $6,280–$7,440

Ophthalmologist Job Requirements

• Board Certified Physician in Ophthalmology (required)
• Active and unrestricted medical license (state-appropriate; Michigan licensure preferred/eligible)
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 1 year post-residency clinical experience in ophthalmology
• Proficiency as a cataract surgeon and experience performing intravitreal injections (required)
• Ability to interpret ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic studies, including OCT, fluorescein angiography, and A- and B-scan ultrasound
• Demonstrated productivity and efficiency in a high-volume ophthalmology practice

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive ophthalmology care in both clinic and surgical settings
• Perform cataract surgeries (phacoemulsification, IOL implantation), glaucoma and corneal procedures, and intravitreal injections
• Conduct pre-operative evaluations, post-operative follow-up visits, and manage perioperative care
• Interpret ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic studies to guide clinical decisions
• Collaborate with medical assistants and support staff to maintain efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to clinic protocols and standards
