THE LOCATION — Ellsworth / Downeast Maine
Ellsworth is the gateway to Acadia National Park and Maine's spectacular Downeast coast — a place where lobster boats dot the harbor, fall foliage is a national event, and the quality of life consistently ranks among the best in the Northeast. The community is tight-knit, safe, and deeply welcoming to physicians. Bar Harbor and Acadia's carriage trails, Cadillac Mountain sunrises, and ocean cliff hiking are all within 20 minutes. In summer, the coast comes alive with sailing, kayaking, and fresh seafood shacks. In winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing provide quiet beauty. Bangor — the region's largest city — is 30 minutes north with additional shopping, dining, and Bangor International Airport access. Housing is remarkably affordable by New England standards, with waterfront properties and wooded acreage that would cost 5x more in Massachusetts.
