Job description
The Optometrist will be responsible for providing comprehensive eye care, diagnosing and managing ocular eye disease, and prescribing corrective lenses. The ideal candidate will have a robust ocular disease knowledge base, a strong commitment to clinical care, and a passion for improving the vision and overall health of our patients. Our Optometry services will focus primarily on school-based programs throughout our five-county area, with services being provided on a mobile optometry vehicle.
Job Responsibilities
• Create a positive work environment
• Conduct comprehensive eye examinations across all age groups
• Diagnose and manage a wide variety of ocular diseases and visual system disorders
o Glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and amblyopia
• Perform and interpret various diagnostic testing and imaging
o Fundus photography, visual fields, and optical coherence tomography
• Prescribe and fit spectacles and contact lenses
• Surgical co-management with ophthalmology
• Educate patients on proper eye care practices and preventive measures
• Collaborate and co-manage with other specialties to ensure integrated patient care
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records
• Stay current with advancements in eye care through continuing education
• Assist with hiring and training staff
• Speak at provider meetings, diabetic focus groups, community events, etc.
• All documents in PowerDMS are signed off and completed in a timely manner and all training is Relias are completed by or before the due date.
• Willingly performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
• Valid South Carolina Optometry License
• Strong knowledge base of ocular disease treatment and management
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment
• Commitment to providing high-quality patient care
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Ability to work independently and handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
