Practice Setting
- Inpatient medical setting with ED/trauma coverage and consults from other service lines
- Receives field calls through a patient transfer center from surrounding community hospitals
- Managing ocular emergencies across the system as needed
- Coverage need driven by a recent community vacancy to maintain Level II trauma ophthalmology coverage
Schedule
- 24-hour call coverage blocks (7a-7a)
- Inpatient rounding plus emergent surgery coverage when indicated
- Ongoing need typically structured in 1-2 week blocks per month (often Tuesday-to-Tuesday)
- Orientation required prior to the coverage block
Cases and Procedures
- Trauma and non-trauma ophthalmology consults (ED, hospitalists, and specialty services)
- Sporadic traumatic injury assessments and acute eye trauma
- Global ruptures included in scope
- Transfer-center consults from community hospitals within the system
Requirements
- Board Certified Ophthalmology
- Florida license required (unable to wait for licensure)
