General SummarySpecializes in the treatment of patients and cancer patients using radiation. Prescribes radiation therapy to patients according to established standards and practices and manages patients during and after therapy. Works closely with other staff in the department to accomplish treatment planning, Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Sees outpatients and inpatients in consult upon referral from other physicians in order to discuss patient condition and evaluate patient for therapy; answers patient questions and explains proceduresPrescribes and plans course of radiation therapy for each patientDuring course of therapy, evaluates patient on regular basis and manages as needed depending upon patient condition; reviews treatment delivery process and chart on regular basisMakes referrals to Cancer Center support personnel as appropriate, including dietician, social worker, nurseProficiency with electronic information systems which support clinical and non-clinical operations of department such as the electronic medical recordEvaluates patients for appropriateness for enrollment in clinical trialsSupports and participates in activities which are required for Cancer Center accreditation in the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and other accrediting bodies.Assumes On-Call responsibilities as appropriateCommon Expectations:Participates in Medical Staff activities as required and/or as requested.Observes the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Hospital and the Medical Staff.Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control Standards; participates and contributes to Quality Assurance Plan and performance improvement initiativesEnhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.Required for All Jobs:Performs other related duties as identified.WellSpan Health has adopted and implemented a compliance program to support WellSpan's values and standards for professionalism, integrity, and ethics.
