Internal Medicine - Oncology Physician Position OverviewLocum tenens opportunity for an Internal Medicine - Oncology physician with scheduled clinical hours plus call coverage. This is a consultant-based practice with primary focus on outpatient care.
Key ResponsibilitiesOutpatient clinic schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
9-hour shifts with overtime after 9 hours only
30-minute admin time and 1-hour lunch included
36 hours of patient care and ambulatory clinic coverage per week
Hospital call coverage schedule:
Call rotation every 4th or 5th week
One full week at a time
Weekdays (Monday–Friday) for new consults
Saturday and/or Sunday for rounding and emergent consults
Patient mix: 70% Oncology and 30% Hematology (primarily benign cases)
Practice model:
Primary focus on outpatient care
On-call provider handles new consults at the hospital
Nurse Practitioners round on existing patients
New consults are assigned to the on-call provider once evaluated
Expected patient encounters: 15–18 per shift
Average phone consults: 5–6 per week
Average patients seen per visit: 2–3
Call response time required: 30 minutes
Must be able to cover at least 90% of scheduled shifts
Scheduling needed for the following periods:
November 2–13
December 7–18
January 4–15
February 1–5
March 1–12
April 19–30
May 10–21
June 7–18
Candidate RequirementsBoard certification required: Eligible
Fellowship: Required
BLS certification required
Hospital privileges required: Yes
EMR System: Cerner
Preference will be given to candidates with:
Current Indiana medical license with active DEA
No paid or pending malpractice claims
No actions reported on NPDB
Time gaps of less than 6 months
Ability to provide 3–4 professional references
To maintain continuity of care:
60-day notification of agreement cancellation is required
45-day advanced notice of PTO is required
