A high-priority locum opportunity is available for an experienced OB/GYN Hospitalist to provide comprehensive inpatient obstetric coverage in Des Moines, Iowa. This role focuses exclusively on obstetric care in a high-acuity hospital setting, supporting OBED patients, emergent deliveries, and unassigned obstetric cases. The position offers structured scheduling with in-house call support and access to advanced clinical resources.This is an ideal opportunity for physicians seeking focused OB hospitalist work without gynecologic responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
• Perform vaginal deliveries and C-sections
• Care for patients without a primary OB/GYN
• Provide coverage for emergent and inpatient obstetric cases
• Participate in 24-hour in-house call coverage
• Support the state’s only maternity transport team
• Collaborate with MFM specialists as needed
• Utilize Epic EMR for documentation
• No gynecologic duties required
• No supervision of APPs or residents required
Qualifications
• Active Iowa Medical License or Active IMLC (LOQ required at submission)
• Ability to start ASAP
• Clean malpractice and background history
• Self-Query NPDB (pulled within the last 30 days)
• Provider must not be local to the Des Moines area
Working Hours
• Approximately 6.5 shifts per month
• Physicians may not work more than two consecutive 24-hour shifts
• In-house call required
• Weekend coverage required
Skills
• Emergency labor & delivery management
• Cesarean section proficiency
• OB triage and inpatient management
• Strong clinical judgment in emergent scenarios
• Team-based collaboration in hospital settings
• EMR documentation (Epic preferred)
