Are you a Board Certified or Board Eligible General OB/GYN Physician seeking flexible 24-hour call coverage along Lake Huron? A prominent 139-bed regional medical center in Alpena, Michigan is seeking a skilled OB/GYN physician for recurring locum tenens coverage blocks from mid-October through late December 2026. Featuring dedicated 24-hour call blocks, optional daytime clinic shifts, 3-nurse per-shift support, and midwife collaboration, this position offers an exceptional clinical balance in northern Michigan.

The Opportunity

Step into an established regional women’s health program, managing obstetrical admissions, delivery suites, and emergency gynecological consultations.

• Clinical Scope: Deliver comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological inpatient care, including:

  • Performing C-sections, D&Cs, laparoscopy, NST interpretations, and circumcisions

  • Managing labor and delivery cases and acute inpatient OB/GYN consultations

  • (Optional) Providing outpatient clinic coverage (Monday–Thursday 7:30 AM–4:30 PM, Friday 7:30 AM–12:00 PM; ~2 patients per hour)

• The Schedule & Call Blocks: Coverage is structured around 24-hour call shifts (1 orientation day precedes the first shift):

  • October: 10/15 (7 AM) – 10/17 (7 AM), 10/22 (7 AM) – 10/23 (7 AM)

  • December: 12/6 (7 PM) – 12/8 (7 AM), 12/10 (7 AM) – 12/11 (7 AM), 12/21 (7 AM) – 12/23 (7 AM), 12/24 (7 AM) – 12/30 (7 AM)

• Clinical Support Structure: 3 dedicated nurses scheduled per shift, with certified midwife support starting in September.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree & Board Status: MD; Board Certified (BC) or Board Eligible (BE) within 5 years of residency completion.

• Licensure: Active, unencumbered Michigan Medical License preferred (IMLC letter of qualification accepted).

• Life Support: Active ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required.

• Education & Credentials: Medical school must be on the California Approved List; residency/fellowship must be ACGME-approved.

• Case Logs & Vetting: Minimum 1 year of post-grad experience; clean NPDB and no major malpractice issues; verified 12-month case logs demonstrating at least 50 deliveries and 25 GYN procedures; 3 professional references from the prior 18 months.
