Position Details: 3 providers needed; 24-hour in-house call; sole OB physician on site during the shift; cover unassigned deliveries and emergent cases; facility is not accepting providers local to the Des Moines area
Patient Population: Obstetric patients; OBED and Labor & Delivery patients; unassigned and transfer patients; high-acuity obstetric cases
Setting: Inpatient at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center; 8-bed OBED
Responsibilities: Manage labor and perform deliveries; provide support for OBED and L&D; rapidly evaluate and manage obstetric patients; manage high-acuity obstetric cases; coordinate admissions, transfers and operative care; provide antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care; oversee labor management, fetal monitoring, procedures and delivery assistance; serve as clinical lead during obstetric emergencies and rapid response events; provide OB consultations; collaborate with midwives; supervise residents and medical students; ensure clear communication and handoffs; maintain accurate documentation and order entry
Required Procedures: Vaginal deliveries, C-sections, VBAC and twin deliveries
EMR System: Epic
Support Staff: Residents on-site; MFM on call; midwives from PHC; medical imaging, lab and pharmacy available
Days Per Month: Not specified; candidate must provide average number of shifts per month
On-Call/Weekends: 24/7 in-house call; weekend coverage expected

Submission Requirements:

• Board Certified in OB/GYN – REQUIRED (can accept truly Board Eligible candidates)
• Active IA License, Active IMLC (upload LOQ at time of name clear), or new license candidate for 2027 dates – REQUIRED
• Exact dates candidate can cover and average number of shifts per month – REQUIRED
• Malpractice/Background: no 2 or more claims filed within the past 5 years OR one adverse settlement/judgement in a professional liability action over $250,000 within the past 5 years – REQUIRED
• Self-Query NPDB pulled within the month – REQUIRED
