Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Medical Director specializing in OB/GYN for a locum-to-perm opportunity. This role begins as a fully remote locum assignment (13 weeks) with the expectation to transition into a hybrid permanent position.
Role Overview:
The Associate Medical Director will provide clinical oversight, support utilization management activities, and ensure high-quality care delivery. This position requires a hands-on approach and leadership in guiding multi-disciplinary teams while maintaining compliance with managed care principles and Texas Medicaid regulations.
Responsibilities:

Review prior authorization and appeals requests for medical necessity

Conduct peer-to-peer calls as needed

Provide oversight for utilization management, disease management, and quality management activities

Develop and implement medical policies, clinical standards, and guidelines

Analyze provider performance, review applications, and ensure adherence to standards

Assist with pharmacy benefit administration and coordination
-
Oversee clinical aspects of fraud, waste, and abuse programs
-
Participate in state and local regulatory activities

Identify opportunities for process improvement and workflow efficiency

Chair or participate in managed care and interdisciplinary committees

Train, supervise, and evaluate staff to ensure maximum team performance

Stay current with clinical advancements and integrate into work practices
Requirements:

Board Certification in OB/GYN (or relevant medical specialty) โ required, no exceptions

Texas medical license (or willingness to obtain)

Clean malpractice/license history

Experience in managed care and prior authorization

Participation in a managed care UM committee (preferred)

Ability to oversee a multi-disciplinary team in a managed care model

Familiarity with Texas Medicaid regulations

Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
