OBGYN Generalist Position
Location: Central, South-Central, and Northeastern Pennsylvania
Provider: A large regional health care provider
Setting: A balance of work in Clinic and Inpatient settings as an OBGYN Generalist.
Job Summary
The OBGYN Generalist will manage a broad scope of obstetric and gynecologic care. This role is supported by 24-hour laborist coverage and 12-hour per day midwife availability, allowing for a balanced practice.
Clinical & Office-Based Work
Location: Central, South-Central, and Northeastern Pennsylvania
Provider: A large regional health care provider
Setting: Works exclusively in the hospital setting, focusing on the care of laboring patients and obstetric emergencies.
Job Summary
The OBGYN Hospitalist, or Laborist, is an in-house obstetric specialist who provides continuous, expert 24/7 coverage for the Labor & Delivery unit. This role ensures rapid response to emergencies and handles inpatient obstetric and gynecologic care.
Labor & Delivery Management

Job Summary

Clinical & Office-Based Work
- Manage a balance of obstetrics and gynecology.
- See 15-20 patients per day.
- Perform routine checkups, including Annual well-woman exams, Pap smears, breast exams, and preventive care.
- Manage reproductive health issues such as menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain, menopause, infertility, and contraception.
- Diagnose and treat gynecologic conditions like fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and infections.
- Provide comprehensive prenatal care, monitoring fetal development and managing pregnancy health.
- Manage labor & delivery, performing both vaginal deliveries and C-sections.
- Provide postpartum care, monitoring recovery and addressing complications.
- Perform minor procedures, including IUD insertion, biopsies, and colposcopies.
- Perform major surgeries, including Hysterectomy, laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis, and removal of ovarian cysts or fibroids.
- Join a large group of providers consisting of 10 physicians and 21 advanced practitioners.
- Opportunity to engage in teaching.
- Have graduated from an accredited medical school (MD or DO).
- Must be residency or fellowship trained.
- Be board certified or eligible.

Labor & Delivery Management
- Monitor and manage women in labor.
- Perform vaginal deliveries and C-sections.
- Handle complications during childbirth such as preeclampsia, fetal distress, or postpartum hemorrhage.
- Support patients without their personal OB-GYN present, including after-hours emergencies.
- Respond immediately to obstetric emergencies—such as maternal hemorrhage, uterine rupture, or shoulder dystocia.
- Manage triage for all patients presenting with pregnancy-related complaints.
- Evaluate and treat gynecologic emergencies (e.g., ruptured ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion).
- Perform emergency surgical interventions as needed.
- Work closely with nurses, midwives, anesthesiologists, and neonatal teams.
- Communicate with outpatient OB-GYNs to provide updates on their patients’ hospital courses.
- Participate in hospital safety initiatives, training, and quality improvement activities.
- Laborists usually work designated monthly shifts of 24 hours, typically 4- 8 shifts per month.
- Have graduated from an accredited medical school (MD or DO).
