Our client, a leading healthcare organization specializing in obstetric and neonatal care, is hiring a Director of Labor & Delivery, Obstetricians Gynecologist Physician. This executive-level role oversees one of the most active labor and delivery units within the region, managing clinical quality, safety, operational efficiency, and team development to ensure exceptional patient outcomes and experience. This position demands a visionary leader with a strong background in obstetrics and gynecology, particularly in high-acuity maternity care settings. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in clinical leadership, quality improvement methodologies, and multidisciplinary team coordination to foster a safe, equitable, and patient-centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead clinical quality initiatives, including maternal morbidity and mortality reviews, perinatal safety programs, and the implementation of national safety bundles.
  • Oversee daily operations ensuring a streamlined patient flow across Labor & Delivery, OB-ED/Triage, ORs, and PACU, while reducing bottlenecks and enhancing throughput.
  • Maintain 24/7 emergency readiness for obstetric crises such as hemorrhage, hypertension, and fetal compromise, ensuring rapid response protocols are in place.
  • Foster a safety-oriented culture through daily huddles, simulation training, and interdisciplinary debriefs.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing, anesthesia, neonatology, and maternal-fetal medicine leaders to enhance clinical protocols, staffing models, and resource allocation.
  • Support initiatives to improve patient experience and address disparities by integrating comprehensive maternal wellness and culturally sensitive care practices.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and maintain credentialing, privileging, and documentation accuracy.
  • Lead data-driven quality improvement efforts, leveraging analytics and EHR optimization to monitor key performance indicators and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with institutional growth, including capacity planning and new program development.
  • Participate in budget planning and financial stewardship, supporting cost-effective practices and value-based care initiatives.

Requirements

  • MD or DO in Obstetrics & Gynecology, with board certification (or eligibility with a defined timeline).
  • Unrestricted NY state license and hospital privileges.
  • Minimum of 10-12+ years of post-residency experience with demonstrated leadership in high-volume labor and delivery settings.
  • Proven expertise in quality improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) and perinatal safety bundles.
  • Exceptional communication, collaborative leadership skills, and ability to influence multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems (EPIC/Cerner), perinatal analytics, and credentialing processes.
  • Experience in academic teaching, interdisciplinary simulation programs, and staff development is highly desirable.
  • Strong commitment to fostering a psychologically safe, culturally competent, and trauma-informed care environment.
