Approximately 22 miles south of downtown Atlanta, Fayetteville is the county seat Fayette County, Georgia, and is home to approximately 16,000 residents. The city was founded in 1822 as the seat of the newly formed Fayette County. The Fayette County Courthouse was built in 1825 and is the oldest surviving courthouse in Georgia. The courthouse sits in the center of the Fayetteville town square and today houses the local chamber of commerce and the Fayette County Development Authority.
