Approximately 22 miles south of downtown Atlanta, Fayetteville is the county seat Fayette County, Georgia, and is home to approximately 16,000 residents. The city was founded in 1822 as the seat of the newly formed Fayette County. The Fayette County Courthouse was built in 1825 and is the oldest surviving courthouse in Georgia. The courthouse sits in the center of the Fayetteville town square and today houses the local chamber of commerce and the Fayette County Development Authority. Other historic buildings include the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House, built in 1855 by John Stiles Holliday, uncle of the western gambler John Henry (Doc) Holliday, and the Margaret Mitchell Library, built in 1948 and is now home to the Fayette County Historical Society and houses Civil War and genealogical records. Amusement parks are also available with Fun Junction USA, formerly Dixieland Fun Park, which is the third largest amusement park in Georgia and has received awards for their annual Halloween festival. Pinewood Atlanta Studios, owned and operated by the famed Pinewood Studios in London, Great Britain, is also located in Fayetteville and is the largest film and television production studio in the United States outside the state of California.
