Position OverviewA community hospital in Queens, New York is seeking two Board Certified or Board Eligible Nephrologists to join a growing, hospital-employed nephrology service. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity combining inpatient consultative care with outpatient CKD management and dialysis oversight.
The role offers a balanced mix of high-acuity inpatient nephrology and community-focused chronic disease care, with strong leadership support and a mission centered on health equity.
Clinical Responsibilities Inpatient Services-
Provide timely consults for:

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
-
Electrolyte and acid-base disorders
-
-
Manage renal replacement therapies, including hemodialysis
-
Collaborate with:
-
Intensivists
-
Vascular surgery
-
Heart Failure service (cardiorenal syndrome, diuretic resistance)
-
-
Support peri-operative renal optimization and post-operative complications
-
Possible procedures:
-
Quinton catheter placement
-
Kidney biopsy (as needed)
-
-
Longitudinal management of:
-
CKD stages I–V
-
Polycystic kidney disease
-
Glomerular diseases
-
-
Serve as a hypertension referral expert for refractory and secondary hypertension
-
Provide medical oversight of outpatient dialysis units
-
Lead transplant referral and coordination efforts for Rockaway residents
-
Maintain high-quality documentation supporting CDI, risk adjustment, and CMI
-
Emphasis on:
-
Acute on chronic kidney disease
-
Clear etiology of renal failure
-
-
Participate in CDI education and respond to queries within 48 hours
-
Support QI initiatives:
-
Reducing 30-day readmissions (CKD & Heart Failure)
-
Infection prevention, including CLABSI reduction
-

Participate in community outreach focused on ESRD prevention

Provide educational sessions for PCPs (e.g., CKD referral timing, proteinuria management)
-
Engage in multidisciplinary committees addressing healthcare access disparities
-
Full-time

8-hour shifts
-
Average volume: 15–20 patients/day

Weekend coverage: Every 3rd weekend

Holiday coverage: Rotational
-
Call: Required (non-negotiable)

Clinic sessions required (flexibility with clinic days)

MD or DO
-
Completion of:
-
ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency

Nephrology Fellowship
-
-
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Nephrology

Eligible for New York medical licensure

POCUS experience preferred

Salary range: $375,000–$400,000
