Permanent Medical Director – Neonatology

Shift: Varied clinical and administrative schedule based on NICU coverage; typically 12–24 hour neonatal coverage shifts; rotational weekend NICU coverage; shared neonatal call coverage
Position Details: Practice Medical Director role at a Level IIIB NICU with 60 beds and approximately 625 annual admissions; full-time position requiring residency in the immediate local area; relocation may be required
Patient Population: Neonatal patients
Setting: Level IIIB NICU; academic environment affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
Responsibilities: Provide clinical care; oversee clinical operations and provider performance; lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives; drive clinical innovation and program development; collaborate with hospital leadership and academic partners; participate in teaching and academic responsibilities; mentor residents in quality improvement and research projects; support scholarly and academic initiatives
Required Procedures: High-frequency ventilation and nitric oxide therapy
Support Staff: Multidisciplinary pediatric subspecialists, including maternal-fetal medicine and pediatric surgery; academic partners
Days Per Month: Not specified
On-Call/Weekends: Rotational weekend NICU coverage; shared neonatal call coverage as part of the physician leadership team
Submission Requirements:
- Board Certified in Neonatology (not accepting Board Eligible) – REQUIRED
- MD or DO degree – REQUIRED
- Virginia Medical License (or willingness to obtain) – REQUIRED
- Visa support requirement (J1/H1B) – REQUIRED to specify
- Most recent NPDB Self Query Report (within 30 days active) – REQUIRED
- DEA (must be obtained prior to start) – REQUIRED
