A high-acuity Level III NICU in Northern California is seeking a Neonatologist for an ongoing Locums assignment. This position offers a predictable, recurring schedule each month, with coverage needed January 11–20 (ending the 21st AM) and the same dates every month thereafter.
The role includes:

Daily rounding in the NICU (census 7–12 patients)

Managing higher-acuity neonatal cases

Responding to calls from nursing staff and coming on-site as patient condition requires

Supervising and teaching Family Practice residents on nursery rotation

Collaborating with laborists and pediatric hospitalists
-
No newborn nursery rounding
Callback is rare, averaging 4.7 hours, and the facility provides a structured orientation the afternoon before your first shift.
Requirements
-
Board Certified/Eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
-
Active state medical license
-
BLS, NRP, DEA
-
Must be a paneled CCS provider
-
Recent hands-on Neonatology experience (not general pediatrics)

Clean malpractice history
-
Eligible for temporary privileges (≈30-day processing)

Must hold active staff privileges at a TJC-accredited facility
Required clinical skills include:

Ventilator management (ETT CPAP, nasal CPAP >4 hrs)

Advanced respiratory support (NCPAP >6 cm H₂O or FiO₂ >0.60)

Surfactant administration
-
Cardiac pressors
-
Central/peripheral arterial line placement

Chest tube
-
TPN management
-
Exchange transfusion
-
Care for neonates <32 weeks or <1600 g
EMR: Cerner Care B
Support: NICU nurses, FP residents, laborists, pediatric hospitalists (no APP support)
