Responsibilities
The Division of Neonatology in the Department of Pediatrics at this prestigious medical school is seeking a full-time academic BC/BE neonatologist at an Associate or Assistant Professor level to join a team of 10 neonatologists, 3 Hospitalists and 23 nurse practitioners. This position is responsible for providing clinical care, education, and research. This position may also be responsible for starting a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship (anticipated to start in 2025). The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit a is a level-3 unit (95-bed unit with an average daily census of 75) that offers all pediatric subspecialties, including surgeries (no cardiac surgery, no ECMO), neurosurgery, ENT, and orthopedics. Our team receives an average of 180 transports per year from all along the Gulf Coast and provides coverage to two other level-1 nurseries.

The NICU is proud of its outcome of the periviable preterm infants (has a dedicated Small Baby Unit for extremely premature infants). The program is part of the Vermont Oxford Network and in the process of joining the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium. Plenty of opportunities in research (clinical, global health, and basic science), education, and quality improvement projects are available for faculty development. The neonatology team works closely with Obstetrics/MFM in counseling and following the care of mothers with complex fetal anomalies and mothers in drug rehabilitation programs through birth. Bench Research projects are available as part of the Research in Organogenesis program, a collaborative research program between the Division of Neonatology and the Center for Lung Biology, nationally recognized as a leading center for Pulmonary Hypertension and Oxidant Injury studies.
