Description

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is currently seeking a Correctional Unit Medical Director for the Montford Unit in Lubbock, TX.

TTUHSC Managed Care has a partnership with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to provide all medical healthcare, behavioral healthcare, dental, vision, and pharmacy services to incarcerated offenders in the Northern and Western Regions of the State of Texas. The John Montford Unit, located Lubbock TX, is the Regional Medical Center and Psychiatric Hospital for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). This unit specializes in housing offenders who require mental health and medical treatment. This unit has the capacity to house 1,074 male offenders. The facility has the capability to house 550 inmates in psychiatric care, 400 offenders in the Trusty Camp, 30 holding beds, 50 Ward beds, 44 Long Term Care beds, and 4 Specialty Care beds. This position will require management of in-patient and out-patient services, specialty care, and convalescent care.

Job Summary

Provides advanced professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients. Coordinates the delivery of clinical health care within a TDCJ Correctional institution, insuring that the appropriate health care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion regardless of segregation status. Renders medical judgement regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit according to TTUHSC Correctional Healthcare Policies and Procedures, TDCJ Policies and Procedures, and American Correctional Association (ACA) on Correctional Health Care Standards. Works under the general direction of the Executive Medical Director with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgement. Receives general supervision from the Executive Medical Director. Supervises physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Work is performed in a correctional institution with contact with inmates. Deadlines, interruptions and meetings necessary. Additionally, work requires collaboration with the faculty and staff at TTUHSC.

Required Qualifications:

Must hold a current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Must hold current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MD or DO diploma from accredited school of medicine.
  • Clinical medical experience within a large health care organization.
  • Preferably Internal Medicine or Family Practice training.
  • Supervisory experience 3 years.
