Job description
The Medical Director of Sanford Medical Education provides strategic leadership for the educational mission across graduate and undergraduate medical education. This position combines two complementary roles: Medical Director/Designated Institutional Official (DIO) at 0.4 FTE, responsible for oversight of all ACGME-accredited programs and institutional compliance, and Associate Dean for Medical Student Education at 0.1 FTE, focused on advancing the medical student experience and academic partnerships. Together, these roles ensure excellence in education, accreditation, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the Medical Director will:
- Develop, obtain, and maintain strategic internal and external educational partnerships.
- Serve as the Institutional leader for external education affiliations in region.
- Participate in committees, meetings, and boards with involvement in medical education.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with Sanford research and other research organizations
Qualifications
- Physician with at least 5 years of experience in medical education leadership.
- Expertise in GME, CME, accreditation, and undergraduate medical education.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and foster collaboration.
Medical Director / Designated Institutional Official (0.4 FTE)
- Serve as the Designated Institutional Official for ACGME-accredited programs.
- Oversee graduate medical education (GME), continuing medical education (CME), and related accreditation processes.
- Chair GME committees and lead strategic planning for residency and fellowship programs.
- Maintain compliance with accrediting bodies and institutional policies.
- Provide leadership for faculty development, program directors, and educational committees.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on system-wide educational initiatives.
Associate Dean for Medical Student Education (0.1 FTE)
- Serve as liaison to affiliated medical schools and academic partners.
- Oversee medical student programs, clerkships, and curriculum integration.
- Ensure quality of student experience and compliance with LCME standards.
- Develop innovative educational strategies and faculty engagement.
- Represent Sanford in regional and national academic forums.
