Metabolic Disorders Division Chief

(Board Certified in MBG or CBG)

CHOC Specialists; and the Pediatric Subspeciality Faculty; Division of Metabolic Disorders (Biochemical Genetics) is seeking a faculty member who is BE/BC in Medical or Clinical Biochemical Genetics to join an active and collegial group to serve as Division Chief. The Division of Metabolic Disorders consists of three board-certified MD’s, two Pediatric NP’s, Dietitians, Genetic Counselors, Case Managers, a Social Worker, and additional support staff who provide metabolic care in a nationally-renown biochemical genetics program.

The Division Chief will lead the division’s clinical, educational and research programs as well as provide leadership to continue expanding our pediatric metabolic program. The division chief will direct the clinical care of patients with suspected/proven metabolic diseases (inpatients, outpatients, and enzyme infusions), participating in the confirmatory testing process of newborns referred by the State NBS program, and teaching of students, pediatric residents and genetics or metabolic fellows.

In addition to general metabolic clinics, we offer specialty clinics focusing upon patients with lysosomal storage, neurometabolic, glycogen storage disorders and phenylketonuria in order to provide multidisciplinary care and coordination for patients.

We are a highly sought-after center for national/international multicenter industry-sponsored clinical trials and, since 2021, a designated NORD CHOC-UCI Center of Excellence for Rare Diseases. The Metabolic Rare Diseases Program manages over 20 clinical trials, including gene therapy and has the strong support of 4 full time clinical research coordinators. The program offers ample opportunities to join active basic and translational research projects in mitochondrial and lysosomal diseases or to expand into other areas of interest. An onsite metabolic laboratory provides in-house testing for a variety of metabolic tests, is certified for training in CBG, and offers opportunity to work in the diagnosis of metabolic diseases for qualified candidates. CHOC is the main teaching center for the Department of Pediatrics, UC Irvine School of Medicine. The Division Chief will be responsible for cultivating an environment that advances the strong clinical, research and educational mission of the CHOC Children’s Metabolic Disorders Division.

Qualifications

<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The Division seeks a dynamic, passionate and capable physician leader with a proven track record of collaborative clinical leadership, administrative experience, program development, faculty recruitment and community engagement, a distinguished record of innovative leadership, scholarly accomplishments and excellence in administration is sought. Management education and training is highly desired. Applicants must have an M.D. degree or equivalent, be licensed or eligible to licensure in California.</span>
